Consolidation
Up until yesterday I’ve been running a mish-mash of web and email hosting services. It’s been out of control - at one point I had 3 web hosting accounts and a bunch more email accounts through 4 or 5 different providers. Google’s announcement of IMAP for Gmail the other day finally made me get up off my ass and simplify this internet nightmare.
Starting today, I’ll have just two providers: Slicehost for web hosting (and offsite blogging here at Tumblr of course) and Google Apps for email, calendaring, docs, etc. This should save me a little bit of money (about $5/month) but it will save a ton of time since now I’ll only have to manage web hosting instead of email and all that other stuff as well.
By the way, this also explains why there’s no style to this site at all right now. DNS is updating, so all the static content for this site (i.e. stylesheets and background images) might be in internet limbo for the next few hours. The joys of being a techie.
